The Cherokees of North Carolina in the American Revolution / by James H. O'Donnell III.
"As we review the story during the bicentennial of the Revolution, however, we find that there are some figures and incidents which hare still in the shadows of history. Those perhaps most deeply in the shadows are the people sometimes called the first Americans, or by the misnomer applied by Columbus, the Indians. In an effort to take the native Americans in North Carolina out of the shadows, let us turn the spotlight of our research and imagination away from the familiar scenes, past the coastal plains and Piedmont, and into the mountains."--page 1.
